On larger swells, it barrels, making it suitable only for more experienced surfers, though smaller inside sections can also be more manageable.

Ropeburns

A fun, incredibly fastright-hander suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers. It works best on mid tide, providing long walls for carves and speed. Dry season southeast swells bring clean, consistent conditions, while wet season winds can make it less predictable.

Dassang Beach Break

AKA 'The Beachy' at Dassang Beach is a beginner friendly sand-bottom wave, perfect for learning to stand up for the first time. It is safest on low to mid tide (0–1 m) with 1–3 ft swells. The beach at Dassang offers a beautiful environment for relaxed, safe sessions and epic views.

Coco’s

A left hand sand-bottom/reef break suitable for all levels depending on swell size. It works best on low to mid tide (0–1 m) with 3–6ft swells. Small swells also make it playful and manageable for beginners, while bigger swells bring heavier waves and strong cross currents. Easterly winds in the dry season offer the cleanest conditions.

Launching Pads

A left-hand barreling reef break recommended for advanced surfers. It works best on mid tide (1.2–2.5 m) with 3–6ft swells. Beginners should avoid this break due to the heavy take offs and reef sections. Dry season easterly swells provide the most consistent rides.

Sunsets

A deep water slab and right-hand wave suitable only for advanced surfers. It can hold large swells from 4–12 ft and works best on mid tide (1.2–2.5 m). A step up board or gun is recommended, and sessions are best during dry season easterly swells.

Watubella

A mellow left hand waveset on a stunning white sand beach. Perfect for beginners, it is ideal at mid tide (1–2.5 m) with manageable swells. The bay provides long, gentle rides in dry season easterly winds, offering a safe and scenic place to practice and improve. For those advanced surfers who know how to read a novelty wave and feel challenged, there is a wave that breaks on the point and close to dry reef on a mid-high tide (1.5m-3m) with a stronger swell.

Kerewe Point & A-frame

Kerewe is a long point reef break with multiple peaks:

Kerewe Point: An 800 m long right hander for intermediate to advanced surfers. Best at mid tide (1–2.5 m) with 3–6ft swells. Paddle out via Tarakaha Beach or along the cliff. Works best in wet season with westerly winds or early dry season mornings before trade winds pick up. Mid Lengths are ideal to get past the sections but the wave can be surfed by everyone and everything. If you haven’t yet seen Kai Lenny take to this wave then we suggest you do.

A-frame: A fun, smaller left or right wave suitable for beginners to intermediates. Best at mid tide (1–2.5 m) with 2–4 ft swells, breaking directly in front of Sumba Beach House. Longboards, mid sized boards and soft tops are ideal.

The Hole

An advanced A-frame wave that holds over-head barrels even when other breaks are small. That stretch of coast is a swell magnet. Best at mid tide (1–2.5 m) with 2–4 ft swells. Suited only for capable, experienced surfers due to its powerful, hollow sections. Surfers must feel very confident in deep water and need to be physically fit enough to paddle themselves out of challenging situations if stuck on the inside. Easterly winds in dry season bring the cleanest conditions.

Joni’s

A versatile reef break offering playful sections and occasional barrels, suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers. Works best on mid tide and in dry season southeast swells, while wet season can produce inconsistent conditions.

Coconut Cove

A mellow, scenic break ideal for longboarders and intermediate surfers. Works well on mid to high tide, offering rolling, manageable waves. Dry season southeast swells give the cleanest rides, while wet season conditions remain surfable but less consistent.
